Next show: Sunday, 7 January 2007. Click here for more information
The 1st Swindon Slotcar Swapmeet & Show was held on Sunday, 9 January 2005. It was a great success with 410 people through the door, 45 tables and 4 circuits.
This success was extended in 2006 for the 2nd annual show with 650 people through the door, 45 tables again and 6 circuits.
We try to make the event as accessible as possible to everyone interested in slot cars. The show is very much meant for the 'Dads and Lads' as much as the hardened enthusiasts. 25% of our visitors are children and a good number of the adults are females, often in delighted family groups. We are really pleased to welcome this mix of visitors. Slot cars are a great thing for occupying the family together.
Swindon is an easy place to get to from much of southern England, including Heathrow airport at 1 hour drive for international visitors (train and coach stations are a few minutes walk). The event is hosted at the Oasis a bright, modern Sports Centre with a cafe, bar and easy, free parking. Nearby is the GWR Steam Museum (railways were something that Swindon was once very famous for with a massive manufacturing works) and there is no shortage of shops with the Designer Outlet Village.
There is always much interest in the circuits and we are particularly grateful to Swindon Four Lane Blacktop who bring along a marvellous routed club circuit.
One of our other aims is to encourage more 1st time and sometime stall-holders as well as the long-standing regulars. We are pleased with the response in this respect and have also welcomed international stall-holders from Holland, Spain and Italy just for the event!
We recieve excellent coverage in the local media before and after the event. Here is a 2006 article:
